Mercer Shavelson is a Keyboardist/Composer based in Brooklyn. Mercer grew up in Sea Cliff, NY, a small town in Long Island, and has been around music all of his life, being the son of Jazz Vocalist Rebecca Dorsey.  

Since moving to NYC in 2017, he has performed at venues from Smalls Jazz Club in Manhattan to Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and studied with numerous jazz masters, including Reggie Workman, Joanne Brackeen, Aaron Goldberg and Fabian Almazan.  

Since graduating from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in 2022, he has also been deeply engaging with various forms of healing work, including Meditation, IFS Therapy and Circling, and now teaches the class “Relational Mindfulness Practices” at Fractal University in Brooklyn, in addition to performing and recording original music.
